The experiment
The fermionic isotope 6Li features broad Feshbach resonances for convenient interaction control and the rich physics through the BEC-BCS crossover. The light mass of lithium atoms means certain dynamical processes occur over shorter time scales, and tunnelling can be achieved over a larger spatial separation. The suppression of inelastic collisions at strong interaction makes the bosonic Feshbach molecules stable against the three-body loss process, and therefore long sample lifetimes making strongly out-of-equilibrium experiments at very strong interactions possible.
Our experimental system prepares ultracold samples of bosonic molecules or Fermi gases in two-spin mixtures with an all-optical procedure. The science cell offers excellent access for manipulation as well as imaging.
